INTRODUCTION TO DEER STALKING
Due to a late cancellation we have a space come available on our next Deer Stalking Training day on
Saturday 10th May
The one growth area of fieldsports!
BUT ‘In my opinion it is not appropriate to use animals for target practice. When you want to try rifle shooting, learn, practice and see how far you can safely/competently shoot, use targets. When you want to hunt, only shoot at distances where you are confident of making a safe & clean kill.
When you shoot an animal, do it quickly and don’t mess about.’
We run several days a year for newcomers and would be deer stalkers to try some of the aspects (including how to shoot full-bore rifles safely, correctly and accurately) and see if it might be something for them in the longer term.
Respect for the quarry is paramount. I organise these courses with one or two other stalking professionals as an introduction for newcomers to the sport. A morning session in a classroom environment to learn the theory, practice and laws about hunting with rifles plus quarry specific information, deer stalking and hunting, then after lunch an afternoon session on a private, fully equipped, weather proof range to learn about rifle handling, safety, zeroing and target practice. Numbers are limited to six people per day which includes the use of estate rifles if you don’t have your own but ammunition is extra depending on usage. Food & drink is available all day plus a picnic style lunch, teas/coffees, cold drinks are all included.
Having completed such a day with us and you decide to continue into deer stalking we can arrange a one-on-one outing in the field to demonstrate the art of stalking, observation of the quarry, the shot, hopefully a grassed animal then the extraction, the gralloch and follow on.
We can also assist with any FAC application or variation and advise, supply and fit a new rifle/scope combination (at RFD discounted prices) to suit your needs.
We welcome newcomers young and old to the sport and encourage them to visit for a whole day of one-on-one tuition, rifle handling and safety, shooting at range targets to assess competence.
A lot can be gained from such a day!
Such as for the people who sent us these ‘thank you’ notes…
I am sure you have hundreds of these messages of appreciation, but I am really am grateful. My first kill!
From the original ‘Stalking Experience’ Day back in August last year, to the most recent trip, I have really enjoyed them all. Until next time.
